Champion of Starhaven
Tournament Rules April2006
Eligibility:
To enter the Champion of
Starhaven Tournament the fighter must be:
·
An authorized
fighter with a valid authorization card or complete copy of authorization
paperwork at the time of registration for the tournament. (Out of kingdom
authorization cards are acceptable if they are valid and the fighter has
recently moved into the shire from outside of Trimaris).
·
A resident in the
Shire of Starhaven.
·
Must have a
consort present at the tournament.
·
Must NOT be a
Knight or Master at Arms.
·
Must NOT be the
current Champion of Starhaven.
·
Be
"acceptable" by the Seneschal. (As entrants to all Crown Tournaments
must be found acceptable to the Crown)
Format:
The Champion of Starhaven
Tournament will be a Pas d´Arms, started with a processional, then followed by
3 rounds of combat. Highest accumulated points (combined points for fighting
and additional points described below) will be declared the Champion of
Starhaven. The rounds are as follows:

Procession:
Retinues are limited to a maximum of 10 retainers in addition to the fighter
and his / her consort.

First Round: Fighters
choice of Style: Single elimination, best 2 / 3, double kills will count as
a kill for each fighter, in the event of multiple double kills creating ties,
the fight will continue until one fighter has a 1 kill advantage over the other
fighter.

Second Round: Sword
and Banner: Single elimination, best 2 / 3, see above. A traditional weapon
style for this tournament

Third Round: Champions
Round: (See details below...)
The
Champions Round for this year shall be a Bear Pit style competition. The
Winner of this round will be awarded 1 point towards the Pas dArms
scoring. The winner of the bear pit
round shall be determined by the following scoring method (note: the points
described below are not points accumulated towards the overall Pas points, only
for determining the winner of this round).
The Bear Pit shall last for no more than 30 minutes
- 1 point for each fighter at the start of the fight, and
1 extra point for the winner.
- Wounds retained.
- Simultaneous death results in both fighters leaving the
pit.
- Pit size: 10 x 10 ft. (to encourage location awareness)
- Any authorized fighting style allowed.
- If a foot touches the line, or steps outside the line,
they are out.
- Excessive pushing (over the line) is discouraged.
Scoring:

Fighting points:

·
Each fighter who
reaches the finals of each of the first 2 fighting round will be awarded 1
point. The winner of the finals of each round will be awarded an additional
point (Total of 5 fighting points will be awarded, maximum a single fighter can
earn is 5 points).

Additional
points: 3 Total
·
1 point will be
awarded to the fighter with the best overall heraldic presentation. This
heraldic presence may include, but is not limited to, heraldic clothing,
objects, acts, or personnel, such as a personal herald, as to enhance the
medieval image we are trying to recreate. The populace will be provided tokens
with which to vote on this award.
·
1 point will be
awarded to each fighter who provides a Letter-of-Intent to fight in the
tournament AND a billet upon which is placed the arms under which the fighter
will be fighting Note: the billet
must be completed prior to the event, billets created at site with the supplies
made available will exclude the fighter from the point. Billets will still be
required for the lyste tree.
1.
The device used for display between rounds
should be constructed of a rigid material and be approximately 8 inches wide by
12 inches tall.
2.
The device should bear the Arms of the fighter,
or of their consort. In the event the
fighter does not have a device passed by the College of Heralds, the fighter
may present an un-passed device as long as it is not known to belong to
another person and does not conflict with another fighter entered in the
tournament
3. Fighters should remember that these devices represent them, and no small pride should be taken in the construction and display of said devices

1 point will be
awarded to the fighter who best demonstrates the chivalric ideal on the field.
The members of the Order of Chivalry present will be asked to select the
recipient of this point. If there are no members of the Order of Chivalry, if
the Order of Chivalry feel no contender has demonstrated exemplary performance
or (hopefully) are unable to select one candidate due to multiple contenders
setting outstanding examples of the Chivalric ideals, it is removed from
eligibility and not used to calculate the winner of the Pas d'Arms.
Selection of the Champion of Starhaven:

The fighter with
the most accumulated points will be declared the Champion of Starhaven.
·
In the event of a
tie, the fighter who WON the most rounds of combat will be declared Champion.
If this is unable to break the tie, the fighter with the most fighting points
will be declared Champion. If there is still a tie, the fighters will face each
other in a double elimination round (best 2 / 3), with sword and shield, to
determine the winner.
