Eligibility: To enter the Archer of Starhaven Tournament the
archer must :
1. Be a resident in the Shire of Starhaven.
2. Provide for their own equipment, said equipment to be
in compliance with SCA and Kingdom of Trimaris rules. To wit
A. Bows
1. Recurves, Longbows, and Crossbows may be used in
competition. No compound bows may be used.
2. Mechanical sights are not allowed.
3. Recurve and Longbow division shooters may mark the
limbs of their bows for sighting.
4. Primitive sights may be used on crossbows.
5. There are no weight limits for target archery bows.
6. Arrows may be shot off a rest, the shooters hand, or a
shelf.
7. Bow straps and lanyards may be used.
8. No stabilizers, clickers, kissers, or modern
mechanical string releases may be used.
B. Arrows
1. Shafts will be of natural wood only.
2. Fletching will be feather type only.
3. Nocks may be any material.
4. Only field points or target tips may be used.
5. It is recommended that crossbow bolts have either a
cap or a ring around the end.
C. Bowstrings
1. Strings will be of any modern material used to make
modern bowstrings.
2. Bows in the traditional class may use period materials
in constructing strings.
3. Strings may not have knots tied in them between the
nocks (excepting Flemish strings with bowyers knots).
4. Strings may have nocking points.
5. Strings may not have kissers or peep sights attached.
D. Miscellaneous Equipment
1. Bracers or arm guards are recommended, but not
required.
2. Gloves or finger tabs are recommended, but not
required.
3. Not be the current Archer of Starhaven
Format
1. Target points will be awarded as the result of a
standard Royal Round, described as :
a. Six (6) arrows from the 20 yard line, no time limit
b. Six (6) arrows from the 30 yard line, no time limit.
c. Six (6) arrows from the 40 yard line, no time limit
d. As many arrows as can be shot from the 20 yard line,
30 second time limit
2. Archers Choice: The current Archer will be allowed to
come up with their own round, subject to the final approval of the Ranger of
the Shire of Starhaven, and the seneschal.
This part of the event must remain in full compliance with all SCA and
Kingdom target archery rules.
NOTE
As 2006 is the first year for the
Archer of Starhaven competition, the Ranger of the Shire of Starhaven has
determined the Archers Choice round, as follows :
1. Each archer will fire as many arrows in 30 seconds,
from the 30 yard line, at a pictorial target of a charging enemy.
2. This target will have clearly marked vital target
areas head, chest, and torso (equivalent to the Kill in Combat Archery).
3. Points will be awarded for each arrow in a vital
target area.
4. Points will be awarded for placing in the Archers
Choice Round 3 points for first, 2 points for second, one point for third
Selection of the Archer of Starhaven
1. The archer with the most points will be declared the
Archer of Starhaven.
2. Points will be awarded for placing in the Royal Round
3 points for first, 2 points for second, one point for third
3. Points will be awarded in the Archers Choice round as
specified in the rules of that round.
4. In the event of a tie, the archers will face each
other in Royal Round with a target ½ the size of the standard target to
determine the winner.
